    1. Nadia- Pop culture is something that I used to be a bit familiar with, but now I do not really engage with social media too much, and often miss a lot of references from my friends because I do not understand the context. I think Pop Culture shaped our society in a big way, through movies, social media, music, and books even. This is my first class that really involves anything to do with pop culture, so I have a lot to learn about and im looking forward to it.

  2. Micayla: I feel like his definition made a lot of sense I didn't really know how to describe it until I read this. I feel like pop culture is pretty present in my major because it is very important to stay up to date with everything that is going on in the media and stuff like that.

  3. Delaney's definition of pop culture was not new to me. I do agree that it is heavily influenced by the media, specifically influencers/celebrities. My relationship with pop culture is neutral. I am a person who is easily influenced, so when a new fashion trend emerges, I find a way to incorporate something similar. I haven't been able to find ways to bring pop culture interest in my studies

  4. Yeah, Delaney's take on pop culture wasn't anything I hadn't thought about before. It's sort of hard to ignore how much celebrities and the media shape it. I like to think that my relationship with pop culture isn't too much over the top. The only huge influence it has on me is when trends come out and I am very easily influenced to be a part of it. Unfortunately, I don't really incorporate pop culture and my current studies.

  5. I would say that Delaney’s definition was a bit new to me, because I never had an “exact definition” of the word popular culture, just what I or other people thought it meant. Which in turn is very similar to what Delaney talks about. In terms of my relationship with popculture, since I am a photography major, I am always using media for inspiration and seeing what is trending in the “photo world” Or I am researching how photography has changed from artist to artist. ~ Kenzie

  6. Lizzie Dorsey - I agreed with the majority of Delaney’s explanations of pop culture, especially his sources on how popular culture is formed. His definitions were not new to me. I would consider myself semi-tapped into pop culture today, though in the last decade the internet has caused popular culture to grow in a way that makes it impossible to be fully aware of or invested in every single part of it. I feel that today, there are almost subsets of pop culture that are more popular in specific groups of people, and whichever subset of pop culture you find yourself most interested in can really end up shaping you as a person.
I end up bringing aspects of pop culture into different parts of my studies, though I sometimes try not to. I am an art student, and a lot of my assignments involve design and being original, so I sometimes have to make a conscious effort to not let too much pop culture inspire my work and avoid being derivative, accidental or not.

  7. Finn - Delaneys definition of pop culture was new to me. I had also never heard about folk or high culture, and those definitions also made a lot of sense! Pop culture definitely influences me a lot. I have a lot of tattoos of popular culture and I tend to engage in fan spaces pretty regularly. Since I’m an art student, I get to use pop culture in a lot of my work for my portfolio and different assignments!

  8. Cheylsi D - Delaney's view of pop culture was an interesting one for me. I mean that in the way that he connects pop culture with behavior and identity, which isn't new to me, but this reading helped me put that into perspective. I would describe my relationship with pop culture as pretty normal, as I listen to music and watch movies here and there, but have no obsession with them. However, I think this reading made me think about how much media can bring people together, and how much it is made up of pure shared experiences. Currently, I haven't given any thought to integrating pop culture into my studies. After reading, however, I think it could help me focus more if it's something I'm familiar with.

  9. Marissa Miyoko, Ogo - Delaney's definition of pop culture is not foreign to me. Given the context for the words culture and pop, and putting them together, I would be able to come to a similar definition of the word. I am in tune with today's pop culture, at least in my generation. I spend a lot of time on social media, so I witness trends come and go.
I have been given multiple opportunities to combine both my pop culture interests and my studies. For example, a past professor of mine published an assignment that required a TikTok explaining a topic we learned in the course. It was thoughtful and interesting to be given work with the idea of pop culture in mind.

  10. Landon- This definition was definitely new to me. I am always fascinated by pop culture, how certain things influence other people in certain ways. I am for sure influenced by pop culture, specifically the art I consume. I love to watch movies, its like all I ever want to talk about, and I love music, I feel like both of these aspects of me help me represent myself. Unfortunately for this question, I am an environmental studies student, which is my passion. While not typically involving popculture, it has been great to watch the rise in environmentalist movements.

  11. Nathan-Delany's definition of pop culture was new to me but it made perfect sense. I see a lot of examples of this in movies because I like to watch a lot of the and how movies change and evolve based on what people like. This isn't super pertinent to my major as I am a criminal justice major but it is interesting to see how profession within my major are portrayed in pop culture.

  12. Uzziel Cayetano- I believe that Delaney's stance on our current pop culture isn't really anything new, I have definitely thought about it before. I do definitely find it very hard to ignore the fact of how much these current influencers and “famous people” can manipulate and shape our society. I hate to say it but my relationship with pop culture is definitely over the top or at least more than most. I'm always in the current trend, current meme, and latest news. The huge influence pop culture has on me has been a good and a bad thing like im always up to date on current events local and global but also I know sometimes these things could be misformation. I do not really use pop culture in my studies but I still like to be kept informed.

  13. Christian Beatty- Delaney's definition was new to me but was very understanding and easy to intake. It confirmed my original guesses about pop culture while also reinforcing them with more details. While I am not the easiest to be influenced, I've caught myself on multiple occasions hopping on to trends that the masses follow. I occasionally have my opinions on different media molded by the majority convincing me. I have not found any way to bring my pop culture interests into my studies.

  14. Jana - I had personally never heard of Delaney's description of pop culture before; I also had never heard of high culture or folk culture, but after reading about them - those categories also made sense! Without a doubt, pop culture has a big influence on me but I also see pop culture as a stem from black culture. I don't often personally participate in popculture personally (unless it has to do with Love Island ;) ) but I do stay up to date via tiktok and other social media and I do often see topics talked about i my studies through my views -I personally have a folder filled with videos or posts that somehow connect to my studies just for reference.

  15. Noah Randell - I feel that Delaney's opinion on pop culture was not completely new to me, but it gave me a clearer perspective on how pop culture is constantly changing and how it is shaped by the mass media. I am not the proudest to admit it, but I keep up with pop culture trends, mainly through social media. Pop culture is extremely relevant in my studies being that I am a fashion merchandising major.

  16. Nadra- Although this is my first time coming across Delaney's definition of pop culture, it isn't new to me. It does leave me thinking because I don't think I fully agree with the entire definition, but it is a great view of pop culture overall. I engage with pop culture every single day, primarily through TikTok and Instagram. There are some topics that I personally keep up with because I love discussing them with my best friend and others due to the nature of social media. Being a sociology major, I have definitely brought pop culture into my studies. I have written papers on social media aspects, such as Black Twitter and the perception of Black hair through media. I think one of the reasons I love sociology is that it allows me to thoughtfully engage in pop culture without getting overconsumed by it.

  17. Parker - After reading Delaney’s overview of popular culture, what stood out to me most was how pop culture is described as constantly shifting and directly tied to everyday life, from the clothes we wear to the media we consume. I hadn’t really thought about how much it differs from folk culture, which focuses on tradition and stability, or high culture, which is tied to more elite tastes. Pop culture feels unique because it not only reflects what people value in the moment but also has the power to influence those values going forward. I never really thought about how pop culture influences so much of my life and how it has changed who I am.

  18. Hanna Perez - Delaney's description of pop culture sounded familiar to me although some things they said made me raise my brows and think! I feel like pop culture is pretty straight forward to understand that what is mainly seen in mass media becomes trends or topics drive our society to keep them in the loop for years and years. Being an artist I feel like pop culture is something I can't avoid as my interest fuel my passion to create, media and culture are important to me.

  19. Jordy: Delaney’s definition of pop culture wasn’t totally new to me, but it did make me realize how much bigger it is than just music or fashion. Pop culture is part of my daily life through social media, music, and movies. Sometimes it even helps me understand class topics better because I can connect ideas to things happening in pop culture.

  20. Jasper - Delaney’s definition of pop culture was pretty familiar to me. Even if I hadn't heard his exact description before, I think it lines up with what my overall understanding of pop culture is. Since I'm a cinema major I obviously have to engage with pop culture everyday, but aside from movies I keep up with various ongoing comic book runs. Pretty much the entirety of my studies is about pop culture.

  21. Brandon- I've heard Delaney's definition of pop culture before and I keep up with pop culture through social media and when your on social media its hard to avoid. I wouldn't say pop culture is too connected to my major but there are definitely some parallels.

  22. Kaila Balatbat: Delaney’s definition is new to me and gave me a better understanding of what pop culture is. Although I see pop culture everyday I’ve really never stopped to think about what pop culture is. In some classes teachers have incorporated pop culture into projects and assignments to make them more fun.

  23. Kameron: Delaney's definition has definitely sound new to me and brought a new understanding to pop culture that I never knew. In my studies pop culture does have a common theme being brought up and puts a new perspective to what I'm studying throughout my classes.

  24. Max: Delaney's definition wasn't necessarily new to me, but it helped to give me a deeper understanding into what pop culture is and how to identify it. I believe myself and most of the youth of today is pretty interconnected with pop culture whether they realize it or not. The younger generation is the driving force of the direction of pop culture. In the past I've used a lot of different pop culture media in projects or assignments like music or television, but the way most curriculums are structured, It can be difficult to incorporate relevant pop culture subjects into school work.

  25. Jordan here: Delaney’s definition of pop culture wasn’t totally new, but it made me think about it differently. I always just thought of pop culture as trends or stuff on social media, but the way he calls it “the culture of the people” made me realize it’s basically all the little things that connect us day to day. Pop culture is honestly a huge part of my life through music, TikTok, shows, and even the way my friends and I talk. I’ve actually used it in school before too, like bringing up song lyrics or TV references in essays. It makes assignments way more fun and relatable.

  26. Lee here. Delaney’s definition of pop culture is one that I have not heard of before, and I agree with it. Under capitalism, and as the rich get richer, those who wish to show their own signs of status tend to purchase the hottest new products. They publicly display these items to show their relevance to others, and I am no better. I recently bought a skirt from a popular brand among my friends, and the rush I got from their validation, of their approval, of my purchase was an obvious sign of popular culture making itself known in my personal life. I am in art school, and therefore I really enjoy incorporating my interests into my art. For instance, I had to draw a poster for on of my previous classes, and I decided to add Sonic the Hedgehog into a few details of my work. A lot of my friends like the Sonic franchise, and I wanted to make it known to those who saw the poster that I’m cool and know about that sort of thing.

  27. Kennedy- Delaney's definition is kind of new to me because of the way that pop culture is explained to the audience. It definitely gave me a better understanding on what pop culture is. I feel like pop culture is kind of a new norm for my generation and everyone has their own view point on it. I'm excited to see everyone's opinion and new perspective on pop culture topics.

  28. Victoria - I feel like Delaney's definition of pop culture was new to me, and I wasn't too familiar with it. My relationship with pop culture nowadays is simply about staying informed about what is trending and popular. Everyone has their own taste and likes or dislikes as well with pop culture. I hope to learn more about it with everyone.

  29. Erica - Delanys definition of pop culture came off as pretty standard and accurate. I've always had a fascination with pop culture ever since I gained access to the interne I’'ve been heavily involved in it. Pop culture is a big part of my life as, a photography student who is working towards becoming a fashion photographer. My field is heavily involved in pop culture. A lot of my success will come from my ability to understand and grow with popular culture. Having an understanding of trend cycles and what is popular amongst different groups is a skill I will have to be using often.

  30. Dakota C - Delaney's definition of pop culture wasn't very new to me. Pop culture is a big part of my life and someone who is a theatre tech student who works in film a lot. My relationship to pop culture is incredibly strong, I'm really active on social media and consistantly watch film and TV and interact with online spaces about certain medias.
